Here are some highlights of my recent trip to Mexico.
I performed at 3 events and my first is “Rockland” at the Arena of Mexico City, had the arena floor filled with 1000 musicians!! Drummers, guitarists, bassists and singers all preforming together as one. The production of this event celebrating classic rock and Mexican stars, was well organized and truly exciting. It’s hard to explain the feeling of being in the middle of the arena on stage (using headphones) playing together with 1000 musicians on the floor to the sold out arena crowd. “I Was Made For Loving You” came first and then Gilby Clarke from Guns ‘N’ Roses joined me for “Rock and Roll All Night’. Totally, a thrilling experience.
The next day would be my first of two full band shows, one at La Maraka in Mexico City, and then in Monterrey at Cafe Iguana. My backing band called Carnival of Kiss, is lead by singer guitarist Eddie Ramirez, drummer Jony on drums and Arturo on bass. All three of them love Kiss and they love all eras of the band. They opened both my shows (along with their “Spaceman” guitarist Jonathan) wearing suits and the make up, like the “Dressed to Kill” cover. The crowd love them, and then it was time for my show.
The crowds sang along to the hits of my era. They were mostly young, proving they have been enjoying my years in Kiss by watching videos and loving the music created in my era. That’s the magic of being the guitarist of a band as iconic as Kiss. Generations of fans!!
Music is a positive force for everyone to enjoy. It’s always a pleasure to hear people sing, dance and smile, and the Mexican fans are full of love for Kiss music. At my two meet + greet opportunities, I was showered with gifts and I saw their love for my contributions up close. I am honored to be a part of their lives.
Special thanks to Omar Roldan and his staff, (the promoter who believed), Kiss Army Mexico who was so supportive to my return (Bere, you did a great job in Mexico City) and to Eddie and his band for working so hard on the music. I can’t forget 106.9 FM in Monterrey, who did a fantastic job helping to promote my show at Cafe Iguana. Thanks to Mark Abbattista for the management, and last but not least to all of the people that helped assist me in making this trip a rewarding experience. Thank you Mexico! (Thanks to all the fans and pros who shared photos with me.)
