In July of 1984, Bruce Kulick found himself in a musical limbo without any future gigs lined up. However, fate had something unexpected in store for him.

Bruce received a call from KISS’s Paul Stanley, requesting his guitar skills for a few songs on their upcoming LP.

Bruce enthusiastically contributed to two songs on the Animalize LP: he played the solos on “Lonely Is The Hunter” and the outro solo on “Murder In High Heels.” Initially, Bruce believed that would be the extent of his involvement with the band. However, as he was leaving the studio, Paul Stanley told him, “don’t cut your hair,” hinting that there could be more to come.

A few weeks later, Bruce received a call from the KISS office. They needed a temporary fill-in guitarist for their European tour, and Bruce gladly accepted the offer. There was just one problem—Bruce had only one functional guitar at the time. When he explained the situation to Paul Stanley, Paul instructed Bruce to visit Manny’s Music in NYC and choose a couple of guitars to take on the road. Bruce selected two USA Charvel guitars: an electric blue Model 2 and a metallic gold Model 3, which he added to his previously owned black BC Rich Eagle.

Bruce jetted off to England with the band and performed his first show with KISS on September 30, 1984, in Brighton, England. He officially became a member of the band on December 8, 1984, and the rest, as they say, is KISStory!
